Properties of Electromagnetic Waves

Combining Multiple Waves

When waves are in phase or in other words the peaks are aligned the resulting wave is a higher amplitude wave. This constructive wave is the addition of the amplitudes of both waves. If waves are completely out of phase the resulting wave is a destructive wave and it will not have an amplitude. Any other type of phase shift between waves will result in the amplitude being the combination of both waves at the time of acquisition.
